Placed on the southern shore of Lake Varese, on a hill that
overlooks the lake, Azzate had in the past a certain wealth as it
is marked by the Palazzo Pretorio, the villa Castellani
Benizzi (the town hall), the villa Bossi Zampolli with
the San Lorenzo's Oratory and frescoed by G.B. Ronchelli, or the
villa Bossi Alemagna and Ca' Mera.
Coming down a stairway, we reach the lake and the little church
of the Madonnina del Lago.
Santa Maria's Church , rebuilt in 1851, preserves some
paintings attributed to Nuvolone, to Holbein, to Morazzone and a
Vergine col Bambino by Callisto Piazza.
