In the past, it was the most important village of the Val Bodia
from which probably took the name or which was named by it. The area that includes
the municipalities of Azzate, Bodio Lomnago, Buguggiate, Brunello,
Daverio, Crosio della Valle, Galliate Lombardo, Inarzo and Cazzago
Brabbia is still called Val Bodia or Valle Bossa, from the
Bossi family who owned it until the XVIII century.
As for all the area around Lake Varese, some evidences of its ancient
origin have been discovered. Among them, many finds of Neolithic
Period, a Gallic vitreous bracelet (400 B.C.), a Roman sarcophagus
and about a hundred of Roman coins were been found.
On the hill, there are the remains of a tower, probably
a fortified castle of the Seprio Count times.
To see:
- Bossi Palace, XVII century, built on the site of an
old castle and overlooked the lake
- Santo Crocefisso's Church, rebuilt in XV-XVI century
with some Romanesque elements
- the parish church dedicated to Santa Maria and San Giorgio
(formerly Santa Maria and San Sigismondo) with some frescoes
- at Lomnago, San Giorgio's Church, built in 1921,
preserves a fine altar by the sculptor Corrado Vigni. Close to the
church ther is a farmhouse with portico.
