Brusimpiano
Placed on a headland on the shore of Lake Lugano, it has on
its back Mount Castelletto with the hamlet of Ardena. And just
out Ardena it's the road linking to Marzio and the Valganna Valley.
Celtic tombs (V-II century B.C.) have been discovered in the upstream
hamlets and at also Val Leura hamlet has been discovered a necropolis of Roman Times.
At Castelletto there was probably an ancient fortification made
by the Insubri, and restored as castrum by the Romans. It was destroyed
by the Milanese in 1249 and someone thinks that its foundations
have been used to build the Cadorna Line, the military
fortifications built at the beginning of this century to defend
this part of Italy from a possible Austrian invasion through Switzerland.
Some houses of the old nucleus are frescoed with sacred paintings
to witness the disaster that affected the village.
To see :
- the XVII century houses
- Madonna dell'Annunciazione's Sanctuary, linked to
Brusimpiano by a via Crucis. In the cave close to the sanctuary lived
Father Francesco Coglio (1629-1692) as hermit.
- Santa Maria Nascente's Church with frescoes of the
Luini times
- San Martino's longobard church
