Casciago

Situated on the slope of the Campo dei Fiori that degrades sweetly towards the Lake Varese, it has been delivered up in the 1929 from the union of the two village of Casciago and Morosolo. In the past, due to its position, here were built many beautiful villas, today inhabited by the new middle classes from Milan and Varese.

It was probably the ancient Cassiciacum where lived in the 387 before his conversion St. Agustin, even if the roman presence in the zone is only testified from some earthenwares and one bronze coin of Gallieno.

Little outside the Casciago area, towards the lake, rises the church of San Eusebio (XI century) with a Romanesque tower. Among the numerous villas there is Villa Castelbarco, seat of the town hall and designed by Leopoldo Pollak; Villa Valerio, the school building, belonged to the Tacchini family, owner of the great building that dominated Casciago in the '900, the Filanda, and later handed over to the Valerio family; Villa Pirelli and Villa della Torre.

The Romanesque old parish church of San Giovanni Battista, rebuilt and rearranged many times in the past, now belongs to the Municipality and is under repair.

At Morosolo, there is Villa Stampa, where Alessandro Manzoni stayed often, guest of his step son.
