Placed at the foot of the Monte Piambello, nearly in front of Besano, has Cuasso al Lago, Cuasso al
Piano,
Borgnana, Cavagnano as its hamlets. All have buildings made with the rose local stone.
It was named the first time in 1200 as "Locus Cuvaxi"
with reference to the "Castelasc" (the Castle) built by the Longobards on a former Roman edifice for the defence of the valley from Frankish raids.
In 1880, were been opened the red porphyry quarries and the famous red little cubes, used as paving stones, are unique in Europe for color, hardness and resistance.
At the Desert place, from 1635 there is a well-known sanatorium for pulmonary diseases.
At Cuasso al Lago stands the phytotherapic Centro
Mességué.

- the oratory of S. Maria a Campagna, rebuilt between 1675
and 1691, with an original ancient frescoe
- the church of Beata Vergine Immacolata, with the "Madonna
dei Pumitt
- the Molino del Torchio, a mill in use up to 1979 and today changed into restaurant
- the chapel of San Michele, along the road to the hospital
- the Cavallizza, at Cavagnano, silver, galena and lead mine
