On the southern slope of the Veddasca valley there is only one village: Curiglia that is reachable only by Dumenza.
Beyond Due Cossani, the road across the hill side of the Monte Gradisca and after the monument built in memory of San Carlo Borromeo visit we arrive at the town of Curiglia con Monteviasco.
At the place of Alpone di Curiglia (1190 mt.) there is a boulder with carved twentyfive cross of the Iron Age.
At Curiglia, the road comes down to the Giona stream. We can rise to Monteviasco, the only village of the Varese Province with no communications, by a stepped mountain track or continue to the Mulini di Piero, with its ancient mills, or we can cross the Giona and arrive at the village of Piero..
Little before Curiglia, there is the Santuario del Tronchedo, dated 1500, with a fine marble altar and a Madonna del Latte paint. |
