Cuveglio
Situated in the heart of the Valcuvia, it has ancient origins as the archaeological founds recovered between Cuveglio and Cavona certify.
Near Cuvio there is the rest of a necropolis and many Roman grave goods were found during the building of the provincial road.
Its Collegiata di San Lorenzo was the spiritual center of the Cuvio parish. The original Romanesque church was rebuilded in the XVIII century and only the bell tower is untouched.
To see:
- the ruins of the church of S. Maria, from which the two frescoes now preserved in the Town Hall were removed.
- the old church of Sant'Antonio, cited in
1592, with a triangular bell tower and frescoes by the Luini school.
- the Oratory of the Beata Vergine di Loreto, sanctuary from 1944, and buided about 1630 as true copy of the Nazareth Holy House
- the American Southwest Museum at Cavona
