Golasecca
Placed on the hills along the Ticino River, it is famous above all as center of that civilization
of the Iron Age that extended from the Piemonte to Switzerland to the Veneto and known as Cultura
di Golasecca.
Covering the tow rope along the Ticino River until to the dam of Porto Torre we can admire the hydraulic works constructed in the past to maintain to constant the level of water of the Lake Maggiore and of this piece of river, than many problems created with its rapids to the boatmen of Golasecca and Coarezza as they had to lead their boats to the small Lake of Sant' Eustorgio (in Milan) and therefore to the small Lake of Santo Stefano (also in Milan) in order to deliver the Candoglia marble to the Factory of the Dome.
