It lies on the left bank of the Olona River, near its smaller bend and hence the suffix 'minor' in the name of the town.
Many household items testify the Roman presence in the area, such as in all the surroundings.
In 1629 was founded the Collegio Rotondi, still today one of the wellknown colleges of the province.

- villa Durini, seat of the Civic Museum,
- the Oratory of San Maurizio, built around the Thousand as family chapel of the Terzaghi and now included in the Collegio Rotondi
- the church of SS. Nazaro e Celso, in Prospiano place,
dated probably 1500
- the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Albero, in
Prospiano, frescoed by Giacomo Lampugnani
