It is six kilometeres away from Varese and its suburbs mark the boundaries among the Provinces of Varese and Como. Many water stream, the Lanza, the Bevera, the Quadronna and the Olona River, surround it.

From 1885 to 1928, when it was replaced with the current one made in concrete, there was a 60 mt. high iron bridge over the Olona Valley to connect Milan to Varese with the FNM railway.
