It rises on a level ground above the Olona River, that flows to the west. Its hamlet, Nizzolina, stands to the east.
As in the local speech there is some words typical of the Ligurian people, probably the first dweller of this area was from Liguria.
At Roman Age there was a military harbour on the Olona River that was an important road to the Gaul.
To see:
- San Ilario's Church, dated 1500, the current parish church
- Santa Maria in Piazza's Church, with a XII century frescoe and that was part of the fortification of the waterway
- Santa Maria Nascente's Church, at Nizzolina, former the old isolation hospital, that has a fine wooden painted ceiling
