Ranco

Placed on a fine promontory in the middle of the Lake Maggiore, it has changed from fishermen's village into favourite resort for several families of the lombard middle class who have here many villas with luxuriant gardens. Today, the hospitality of Ranco is famous all around the world for the elegance of its hotels and the excellent cuisine of its restaurants.

At the border with the near municipality of Ispra, on the lake shore, there is the "Sass Cavalásc", a great last glaciation erratic boulder that was dragged here as part of one enormous slandslip spread in the area from the Alpes.

Not far away from the lake, in the residential area, we can visit the Museo dei Trasporti, where locomotives, trams, stagecoaches, carriages and underground cars are placed outdoors in the park of Villa Fantasia, the family house of Francesco Ogliari, owner of this valuable collection.
