Taino

Taino Panorama

Located at the foot of the Monte Croce (352 m) in the hinterland between Sesto Calende and Angera, offers a splendid view over Lake Maggiore. From the square of the parish church dedicated to St. Stephen, named the 'Dumin', and from the near park 'Taino for peace', designed by Gio Pomodoro, you can sweep the eye from Sesto Calende to Verbania, the Borromeo Islands, and the massif of Monte Rosa.

At Cheglio were found fossils of Lower Pliocene, flints and basement of a hut. An early Christian tombstone dated 549 under the name of a child, Stephen, was found in 1966 near the church, which has in the lunette of the entrance a beautiful mosaic by Salviati of Venice in 1883, representing St. Stephen the Martyr.

After having long been owned by the archbishop of Milan, in 1572 Taino was conceded to Serbelloni family, that held its lands until 1906, when he ceded the ancient castle, now Villa Serbelloni, to the Marquis Gaspare Corti of Santo Stefano Belbo.

- The parish of St. Stephen with the stone bell tower

- The city park with the sculpture 'The four cardinal points' by Giò Pomodoro
