At the north of Lake Comabbio and overlooking the ancient road merchantesca, Ternate was probably the site of a Roman castrum.
In the Brabbia marsh and on the banks of the lake have been found remains of piles - an evidence of the presence of people in prehistoric times.
At the center of town stands the nineteenth-century villa Leonardi with a garden of precious woods. In Middle Ages, on the hill overlooking the park standed the monastery of the Holy Sepulchre, a refuge for pilgrims traveling to and from Switzerland.
Behind the town opens some limestone quarries for lime production.
The parish church of SS. Quirico and Giulitta (built in 1177, dedicated to the cult in 1583) you can admire an ancient organ built by Giacomo Mascioni and sons n in 1865 and restored in 1995 by the Mascioni from Cuvio.
