Varano Borghi from Ternate
|
Of ancient origin, as evidenced by the piles of stations found nearby, some Roman coins in the swamp, and also some amphorae from the exacavations for the construction of Villa Borghi, Varano Borghi is placed on a ridge to the north-eastern boundary of Lake Comabbio.
At the end of the eighteenth century, Varano is ownes by Fedele Borghi from Gallarate, who also owned Ternate, Biandronno and Corgeno.
In 1808 becomes Municipality, breaking away from Ternate
and in 1906 took the name of Varano Borghi.
In 1819, the Borghi family settled on Brabbia (lake outlet) a spinning wheel, in 1841 a mechanical weaving and in 1851 a steam engine imported from England. Near the factory were built the workers' residences.
The old bell tower of St. Andrea church is mentioned in documents of Curia of Milan dated 1059.
Where the Brabbia breaks away from the lake, in Summer there is a splendid flowering of white and pink lotus flowers.
