|
The Municipality of Vergiate is quite broad including the hamlet of Cimbro, Cuirone, Corgeno and Sesona; to the south it borders Golasecca and Somma Lombardo and to the north it reaches to the Comabbio Lake, where stands Corgeno. The hill of Sesona and Cuirone
are covered by Pinus silvestris, survivor of the ancient Quaternary forest.
At Cimbro were probably relegated the last survivors of the battles at Campi Raudii near Borgo
Vercelli, won by Mario in 101 B.C. against the Cimbri.
At Cuirone, the church of S. Materno is oriented to the north.
Corgeno,
perched on a slight hill at the southern parte of Comabbio Lake, is the northern limit of the municipal area.
In the area of Sesona, in 1824 the abbot Giani
discovered the first tombs of Golasecca Culture and the place named Torrazzo was in optical direct line with the Torrazzo dei Muracci in Sesto
Calende and the Torrazzo del Monsordo in Somma Lombardo.
Going to the Chapel at Monte Bertone you can admire a 360° view over the Alps, from the Mount Resegone to the Appennines, from the Ticino Valley to the Lombard Plain - and the night lights of Milan and Bergamo
Visit the church of Sant'Eusebio with Appiani frescoes.
An airport for testing the aircraft of SIAI
Marchetti and a flight school are home at Vergiate.
