Lake Delio

Located at the foot of Monte Borgna (m 1158), it is a little lake of glacial excavation that feeds with its water the hydroelectric power station of Roncovalgrande, that is totally hidden inside the mountain on the shore of the Lake Maggiore. During daytime, when the demand for electricity is greater, the potential energy of the water stored in Lake Delio is converted to electrical energy by falling through 700 mt and driving the turbines, which in turn drive the electrical generators.The water is returned to Lake Maggiore. At the night, the water is pumped from Lake Maggiore to Lake Delio.

We can arrive at Lake Delio by car from Maccagno, but also by a mountain path walk with fine views on the Lake Maggiore. From Lake Delio we can also climb up to the Forcora Pass or go down to Pino and Tronzano, on Lake Maggiore.
