Painted Villages
The Italian Association of Painted Villages (ASSIPAD)
was born in Varese in 1994. It aims to group all the Italian villages
which have external house walls painted, sometimes to protest, sometimes
to decorate, sometimes to remember. Such villages become outdoor
art exibition with many 'Author Wall' to admire in every moment
of the year.
The following are those inthe Varese Province.
| Arcumeggia |
It is the most important
"Painted Town". From 1956 famous artists as Usellini,
Carpi, Migneco, Brancaccio, Montanarini, Sassu and many others
represented with frescoes scenes of rural life, emigration,
and tradition on its walls. |
| Boarezzo |
Boarezzo is one of the four small
village that constitutes the commune of Valganna. It is an amazing
village, surrounded by thick hardwood forests, above the Lake
Ganna. Its wall paintings represent the ancient human activities
of the old works and the wood animals. |
| Brunello |
It is a small town hidden
in the green hills between Castronno and Azzate, near the Lake
Varese. The paintings are cement plates fastened to the house
walls. |
| Masciago
Primo |
This small resort village
placed betwen Valcuvia Valley and Valtravaglia Valley has its
houses decorated by painted ceramics panel. |
| Marchirolo |
In the omonimous valley,
the painting of artists such as Gandolla, Maggi, Treccani, Jonesco,
Baruzzi, Damiani, Del Fitto, Emery and other, are about smuggling
and emigration. |
| Runo |
Runo is a small village in Dumenza.
The wall paintings, with a free subject are inserted with naturalness
and simplicity in the small centre.
